Warranty

Our own design, so it gets our own cover.

We designed the MX40, we specified every part on it and we service it in our own shops. That is why it carries three years of warranty instead of the one year on the brands we carry.

Designed by Wilson’s

The fastest thing we make, and the pack to back it

The MX40 is the fastest electric dirt bike we build, and we will get to the 40 mph. What separates it from every other electric dirt bike at this money is where the money went: the motor, the battery pack and the charger, and a five-year warranty on the pack itself.

4500W at maximum

3000W rated, with 4500W available for the pull out of a corner and a 40 mph top speed, the highest of anything we sell.

Motor
A premium LG pack

58.8V 25Ah of LG cells, the biggest battery in our MX range and the reason this electric dirt bike also has the longest range, up to 38 miles.

Battery
A 6A aluminium-shell fast charger

Twice the current of the 3A unit on the MX35, and an aluminium body rather than the usual plastic brick. Aluminium sheds heat, and heat is what kills chargers.

Charger
A five-year battery warranty

Five years on the pack specifically, which is our own commitment on the most expensive component in the electric dirt bike. This is separate from the warranty tiers you choose at checkout and it applies whichever of those you pick.

Separate cover

Motor, battery and charger are where the money went. The fourth line is the reason to feel comfortable about the one component on an electric ride that genuinely worries people.

3000W rated, 4500W max

The fastest thing we sell, and the one that needs the most respect

40 mph is the highest top speed anywhere in our range, on any two wheels, and it comes from a motor rated at 3000W with 4500W available at maximum. That is double the MX35's rated output.

What that buys is not really the top speed, which few riders use for long. It is the way the electric dirt bike gets there: acceleration that stays strong well past the point where a smaller motor has run out of enthusiasm, and the ability to climb without dropping to a crawl.

It also means this is not the electric dirt bike to learn on. A rider new to off-road should start on the MX35, and we will tell you that in the shop rather than sell you the fast one and hope.

Range is 38 miles, which is the longest in the MX range despite the biggest motor, because the battery is the biggest too.

The component people worry about, and what we did about it

Battery is the part of an electric ride buyers are least sure of, and the part they cannot inspect. So this is where the MX40 spends its money.

Premium LG cells. Cell quality is not visible from outside a pack and it is where corners get cut most often, because nobody can tell until two years in. Naming the cell manufacturer is a commitment rather than a boast.

25Ah at 58.8V is the largest pack in the MX range, and it is why this electric dirt bike has both the biggest motor and the longest range rather than trading one for the other.

Five years of warranty on the pack. Separate from the cover tiers at checkout, and it applies whichever tier you choose. If the battery is what is making you hesitate, that number is the answer.

Say it before you buy, not after

Where a 40 mph electric dirt bike belongs

A throttle, no pedals and a motorcycle layout put this outside what is permitted on public roads, sidewalks and shared paths in most places. Private land, and parks or trails where the owner allows it, are where it is unambiguously fine.

Rules vary between states, towns and individual trails, and they change. We will not publish a list here that goes stale and misleads somebody into a fine. Tell us where you live and where you plan to ride and we will tell you what applies before you spend anything.

Protective gear is not optional at this speed. A helmet every time, plus gloves, boots and body armour for anything technical. We size and fit helmets and pads in store.

If what you actually want is something for a commute or a cycle lane, this is the wrong page and we would rather say so. Our Mosquito electric scooter or any of the commuter electric bikes we stock will serve you far better than 4500W ever would.

Two different things

The battery warranty and the MX40 warranty are separate

This trips people up, so here it is plainly. The five-year battery warranty comes with every MX40 whatever you do. The MX40 warranty is a tier you choose at checkout, and it covers the rest of the electric dirt bike. One is included, one is optional, and they do not overlap.

The MX40 as it comes. Battery still covered for five years.

1 year
$1,049

A year of cover on the electric dirt bike for $150.

2 years

Two years for $250, so the second year is $100 rather than $150.

3 years
$1,199

Three years for $300, which is $100 a year and the cheapest per year of the four.

Servicing happens here either way, by our own technicians, at any of our six shops. On an electric dirt bike we designed there is no third party to argue with about whether something is covered.

For dual suspension and hydraulic four-piston brakes rather than outright speed, the MX37 is the enthusiast electric dirt bike. To start more gently, the MX35 begins at $599. Here is every electric dirt bike we carry.

Charge time is the odd gap here: the MX35 states under six hours on a 3A charger, and this electric dirt bike has a 6A charger on a larger pack, but we do not publish a figure and we are not going to calculate one and present it as measured. Ask at any shop.

Questions

Wilson's MX40, answered

Is the battery really covered for five years?

Yes. The pack carries its own five-year warranty from us, separate from the MX40 warranty tier you choose at checkout, and it applies whichever tier you pick.

How fast is the MX40?

40 mph, or 64 km/h. That is the highest top speed of anything we sell.

How far does it go on a charge?

Up to 38 miles, or 60 km, which is the longest range in our MX range because it also carries the biggest battery.

How long does it take to charge?

We do not publish a figure for this model and we are not going to estimate one from the charger rating and pack size. Ask at any shop and we will get you a real answer.

What is the difference between the battery warranty and the warranty I pick at checkout?

The five-year battery warranty covers the pack and comes with every MX40 whatever else you choose. The tier at checkout covers the rest of the electric dirt bike, for one, two or three years, or not at all. They are separate and they do not overlap.

Why do the LG cells matter?

Because cell quality is invisible from outside a pack and it is where corners are most often cut, since nobody can tell until two years in. Naming the manufacturer is a commitment we are willing to make and back with five years of cover.

Is this a good first electric dirt bike?

Honestly, no. 4500W and 40 mph is a lot for a first off-road electric dirt bike and we would point a new rider at the MX35 instead. If you already ride, this is the one.

Is it suitable for a child?

No, and not remotely. This is an adult electric dirt bike at 40 mph. Our kids electric dirt bikes, the DK1 and DK2, do 13 to 15 mph and are built for a garden or a park.

Where am I allowed to ride it?

Private land, and trails or parks where the owner permits it. A throttle, no pedals and a motorcycle layout usually put it outside what is allowed on roads, sidewalks and shared paths. Rules vary by state, town and trail, so tell us where you are and we will tell you what applies.

How much weight can it carry?

265 lb, or 120 kg, the same as the MX35.

What is the seat height?

Not published, and we would rather not estimate. Come to any shop and sit on one.

Does it have suspension?

We do not publish a suspension specification for this model. The MX37 does state dual suspension front and rear, so if that is your priority it is the electric dirt bike to look at.

Why is the MX37 more expensive if this one is faster?

Because they spend money in different places. The MX37 buys dual suspension and hydraulic four-piston brakes; the MX40 buys motor and battery. Fast and open riding suits this one, technical and rough suits the MX37.

Can it be ridden in the wet?

It carries an IPX5 rating, so wet ground and spray are within it. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge it while it is wet, or if the battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.

Who services it, and can you get parts?

Our own technicians at all six shops, with express service at every one. We stock the parts because we specified them. We also service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
